Donut Stool

A Special Project

This project is very special to me because I got to animate (bring to life) something that I created.

Formy woodworking class in the Fall of 2025, we had a stool project. I made a donut stool, inspired by the Simpson's Donut and the famous Blender tutorial (a right-of-passage for many self-taught 3D animators)

After bevelling, lathing, assembling, and painting my way into one complete donut stool, I was hungry to show it off in my usual medium. It wasn't until my advanced motion techniques class had a fluid simulation project that I felt I could let this baby shine.

Recap

I loved this project. It felt like the crossing of different paths and practices. Besides learning woodworking, 3D printing, and Houdini in the previous 4 months, this was a chance to put them all together in a spiritual sense. My 3D model animation took something digital into the real world, and with this project, I did the opposite and brought my real world creation into the digital world.
